Business environments are complex, volatile, and sensitive - and this puts a huge premium on confidence - the ability to pass through stressful moments without becoming ruffled, the skill to shape up to challenges with calm and self-belief.

Programme 2 - Role Change
Sonia Kapur Del Shadian has been in hotel management for six years. She works at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Buckingham Gate London. She works as PA to Bernard de Villele, the current rambunctious hotel manager. Earlier this year, the HR manager left and Bernard decided to offer the post to Sonia for a probationary period. Sonia took it but Bernard has also expected her to continue as his PA.
Sonia feels that she has gone through a massive role change, and although confident as a PA feels very unconfident in her new role. She doesn't believe she has the respect of the staff, yet at the same time departmental heads pass any managerial problems to her. She finds her new role as disciplinarian very difficult and finds it difficult to control situations involving conflict. Sonia has to make a decision shortly as to whether to take this job full time, but feels she lacks the confidence at the moment.
Before
We will see Sonia as she chairs the daily meeting of heads of department. We will also see her as she troubleshoots through the hotel. We will see her trying to deal with her overbearing boss and the conflicts between staff which occur on a daily basis.
