The Confidence Zone - Programme 3: Selling Yourself

Confidence is emerging as a key attribute in the workplace for all sectors and at all levels.

Business environments are complex, volatile, and sensitive - and this puts a huge premium on confidence - the ability to pass through stressful moments without becoming ruffled, the skill to shape up to challenges with calm and self-belief.

The Confidence Zone is a six part series to help boost self confidence in all kinds of situations and at all levels. It offers powerful but simple techniques that everyone can use and adapt, bringing confident working within everyone's grasp.

Programme 3 - Selling Yourself

Michael Stott is a Sculptural Artist working in metal. 5 years ago he was a boiler maker in Huddersfield but was made redundant. A long period of unemployment left him with very low self esteem.

He got the inspiration to start making garden features in metal after watching Home Front in the Garden. Michael feels very confident in his workshop but the moment he has to go out and deal with clients he feels like a fish out of water. He has a real confidence problem with his interpersonal skills particularly when talking to people he refers to as shirts. His friend and manager Richard Tynes thinks that Michael has the potential to do really well but only if he can start talking to clients.

Before We'll see Michael as he goes to meet a new client for the first time and try to get a commission for a fountain. Tony Mills is an ex director a British Nuclear Fuels and just the kind of shirt that Michael feels uncomfortable.
