The Confidence Zone - Programme 4: Impact
The Confidence Zone - Programme 4: Impact

Confidence is emerging as a key attribute in the workplace for all sectors and at all levels.

Business environments are complex, volatile, and sensitive - and this puts a huge premium on confidence - the ability to pass through stressful moments without becoming ruffled, the skill to shape up to challenges with calm and self-belief.

The Confidence Zone is a six part series to help boost self confidence in all kinds of situations and at all levels. It offers powerful but simple techniques that everyone can use and adapt, bringing confident working within everyone's grasp.

Programme 4 - Impact

Sally is a 46 year old teacher. She came into teaching 4 years ago after bringing up her family. She is in her third year at a fresh start school in inner city Nottingham.

Sally doesn't value herself and has a fear of failure. Despite the fact that her colleagues think she's a good teacher she doesn't value herself enough. She didn't even apply for her own job after her initial contract because she wasn't confident that she's good enough. She looks for approval with colleagues and Heads and finds it difficult to use her initiative because of her fear of failure. Her lack of self belief is getting in the way of doing an effective job and fulfilling her potential as a teacher

Before: We will see a typical day at Sally's school. We will see Sally in the classroom teaching. We will also see her at a staff meeting and interacting with colleagues and parents

Make Over
· IMPACT
Sally will review a video of herself. Ros will do an exercise on entering a room. How to do it to look instantly confident.
There will be an exercise on becoming larger than life..... Body language exercise where Sally and Ros talk about anything - lampshades, cucumber, toilet paper, whatever but at the same time for a minute to camera. This forces her to make larger gestures and more of an impact .
· THINKING
Labelling exercise. Sally has to write on chalk on a wall what she thinks of herself, what the children think of her and what the head teacher thinks. Ros will then adjust this to focus on the positive.
· FEELING
Ros will feel about how to overcome feeling tired and increasing energy levels. She will teach her how to notice triggers in herself and the kids. Come up with energising exercises for her and the children. Teach her to teach them relaxation. So they can choose to be energetic or chilled.
· ACTION
Practice setting boundaries for the kids. Giving feedback and saying 'no'. Instruct me to be a difficult child. Telling off without undermining.

After
We will go back to the school with Ros and see how much of Ros's teaching she can put into practice.

The learning messages are;-
Impact - Creating a confident impression through the use of confident body language, even if that's not totally the way you feel inside..

Thinking- Relaxed thinking by questioning every thought with so then what?until you realise you can cope with the worst situations.

Feeling - Conditioning yourself to feel more positive and confident

Action - Putting your new found confidence to the test - the more you put the techniques in to practice the more your confidence will grow.

Confidence breeds success and transforms business. A business which helps its employees to feel more confident with each other and with customers stands an improved chance of being successful.

Length 15 minutes
