In the early hours of 3rd December 1984, a cloud of poisonous gas escaped from the Union Carbide pesticide plant in the Indian city of Bhopal. Within hours, thousands were dead and thousands more crippled for life.
This programme exposes the financial pressure and cost-cutting decisions that sacrificed the safe operation of the plant. The detailed breakdown of the sequence of events that led to disaster can be used to encourage discussion of the underlying causes of this, the world's worst industrial disaster.
A compelling film which uses drama, rigorous documentary journalism and skilfully deployed archive material to reveal how an American-owned factory, intended to bring progress and prosperity to the people of Bhopal, brought, instead, death and destruction.
