October Fire tells the story of a devastating accident involving a Russian nuclear submarine 'K219'.
In 1986, on board a huge Soviet nuclear submarine, fifty metres below the surface of the ocean, an enormous ballistic missile exploded, damaging the submarine.
Using carefully obtained classified documents, the BBC documentary film tells the true story of the cause of the explosion and the heroic three-day fight to save the world from the nuclear disaster as the reactor overheated and threatened to melt down.
October Fire is part of a BBC documentary series, Disaster - series1, investigating health and safety disasters in history.
