The world's worst oil industry disaster claimed 167 lives in July 1988. In the wake of Piper Alpha, the British Government is conducting technical and public enquiries into the causes of the accident and the lessons for the whole industry. Changes will be made but, as we see in documentary Piper Alpha: The Human Price of Oil, they will be expensive and may affect the economics of the oil industry and the whole future of the North Sea.
Piper Alpha: The Human Price of Oil is a BBC Active film for students looking at the future of health and safety for this lucrative business and the profound political effects any changes put in place may have.
